The Laycock Candles Standard

Every product we make carries a set of commitments we do not compromise on. This is what those commitments look like in practice.

The Wax

Depending on the product, we use either a sustainable coconut and rapeseed wax blend or a coconut wax blend. Both are free from paraffin and soy. Both are chosen for a clean, even burn that releases fragrance steadily rather than in a single early burst. We chose these blends because they perform beautifully and because they reflect the environmental standard we hold ourselves to across everything we make.

You can see this in every luxury candle and every luxury wax melt we pour.

The Wick

Our candles are fitted with either a natural cotton wick or a wood wick crafted from sustainably sourced EU timber, depending on the product. Cotton wicks produce a stable, consistent flame with no unwanted additives. Wood wicks burn cleanly and may produce a gentle crackle that is simply a natural characteristic of the material. Both are chosen for the cleanest, most even burn possible.

The Fragrance

For certain products we use 100% pure essential oils, where the fragrance calls for the real thing and nothing else will do. You can find this in candles like Heritage Rose, The Woodsman and The Orangery, where only the real thing does the fragrance justice.

Where a richer, deeper scent is needed we use high quality cosmetic-grade fragrance oils, vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, produced to meet strict UK and EU safety standards. Every fragrance in the collection is chosen personally and deliberately. Nothing is included because it is easy or cheap. Everything is included because it is right for the product.

The Craft

Laycock Candles started with a collaboration with a specialist UK artisan. Over time we fell in love with the process itself and brought everything in-house. Today every candle and wax melt is hand poured by us in small batches, right here in Yorkshire. My husband and I oversee every pour, every label and every piece of packaging that leaves us. It is made by hand, by two people who care deeply about what they are sending into your home.

The Packaging

Every bag, box and tube is biodegradable or recyclable and sourced sustainably. This has never been up for negotiation and it never will be.

When a Laycock Candles product arrives at your door, everything about it has been considered. The ingredients, the process, the packaging and the people behind it. That is the standard we set ourselves, and it is the one we intend to keep.
