About Laycock Candles
Laycock Candles was born from a simple desire to bottle a feeling.
Not just any feeling. The very specific one that comes from being in West Yorkshire. The particular quality of light on the moors on a clear morning. The warmth of a farmhouse kitchen on a cold afternoon. The way the air smells after rain on stone. I wanted to bring that atmosphere indoors, and I wanted to do it properly.
A Business Built by Hand
Laycock Candles did not start the way it runs today, and I think that story is worth telling.
When I first launched the collection I worked with a specialist UK artisan to bring my vision to life. They were brilliant. But somewhere along the way I fell in love with the process itself the pouring, the testing, the quiet satisfaction of getting a scent exactly right. So my husband and I took the leap. We brought everything in-house, and we have been hand pouring every candle and wax melt ourselves ever since.
That decision changed everything. It meant we could hold every ingredient to the standard we actually believed in rather than simply approving it from a distance.
Sustainable by Design
Luxury should not cost the earth. That is not a tagline it is a standard I hold myself to with every decision I make.
Every fragrance oil in the collection is cosmetic-grade, vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, produced to meet strict UK and EU safety standards. For certain products we use 100% pure essential oils, where the fragrance calls for the real thing and nothing else will do. Where a richer, deeper scent is needed we use high quality cosmetic-grade fragrance oils chosen because they perform beautifully and meet every standard we care about. Depending on the product, we use either a sustainable coconut and rapeseed wax blend or a coconut wax blend both free from paraffin and soy, both chosen for a clean, high quality burn. Our candles are fitted with either a natural cotton wick or a wood wick crafted from sustainably sourced EU timber, depending on the product each chosen for the cleanest, most even burn possible. Every piece of packaging every bag, box and tube is recyclable or biodegradable, sourced sustainably. No exceptions, no compromises.

From the Very Beginning
When Laycock Candles first launched, I sought out a specialist UK artisan who could meet the standards I refused to compromise on. Together we finalised a specification built around one principle that what you burn in your home should be as kind to the people inside it as it is to the planet outside it.
That original specification set the foundation everything still stands on today:
The wax was a sustainable coconut and rapeseed blend, chosen for a slow, clean burn and a low carbon footprint. The wicks were 100% pure cotton, ensuring a stable and consistent flame with no lead or unwanted additives. Every formula was 100% vegan-friendly, with no animal by-products accepted at any stage. The burn was toxin-free, because a home fragrance should create a sanctuary, not compromise one. And every piece of packaging was biodegradable or recyclable a non-negotiable standard from day one that has never changed.
Those foundations have not moved. What has changed is who does the pouring and that story is in the next chapter.

What began as a partnership with expert artisans has grown into something far more personal.
Today every candle and wax melt is hand poured by us, right here in Yorkshire. My husband and I oversee every batch from start to finish the pouring, the setting, the labelling, the packaging. Every single product that leaves us has been handled by someone who genuinely cares about what they are sending out.
The packaging is biodegradable, recyclable and sourced sustainably — because what surrounds your order should reflect the same values as what is inside it.

Our candles are fitted with either a pure natural cotton wick or a wood wick crafted from sustainably sourced EU timber. No compromise, either way.
