The Story Behind Laycock Candles
A Business Built by Hand
Laycock Candles did not start the way it runs today, and I think that story is worth telling.
When I first launched the collection I worked with a specialist UK artisan to bring my vision to life. They were brilliant. But somewhere along the way I fell in love with the process itself, the pouring, the testing, the quiet satisfaction of getting a scent exactly right. So my husband and I took the leap. We brought everything in-house, and we have been hand pouring every candle and wax melt ourselves ever since.
That decision changed everything. It meant we could hold every ingredient to the standard we actually believed in rather than simply approving it from a distance. Every luxury candle and every luxury wax melt that leaves us has been made by our hands, in small batches, in Yorkshire.
Sustainable by Design
Luxury should not cost the earth. That is not a tagline. It is a standard I hold myself to with every decision I make.
Fragrance Oils
Every fragrance oil in the collection is cosmetic-grade, vegan-friendly and cruelty-free, produced to meet strict UK and EU safety standards. For certain products we use 100% pure essential oils, where the fragrance calls for the real thing and nothing else will do. Where a richer, deeper scent is needed we use high quality cosmetic-grade fragrance oils, chosen because they perform beautifully and meet every standard we care about.
You can see this in action across the collection. The Woodsman is built on 100% pure essential oils, chosen for an amber woody depth that only the real thing can deliver. Heritage Rose uses the same approach, a floral cashmere blend that is unhurried and genuinely soft.
Wax
Depending on the product, we use either a sustainable coconut and rapeseed wax blend or a coconut wax blend, both free from paraffin and soy, both chosen for a clean, high quality burn. Our candles are fitted with either a natural cotton wick or a wood wick crafted from sustainably sourced EU timber, each chosen for the cleanest, most even burn possible.
Our luxury wax melts use a coconut wax blend, the same commitment to clean ingredients, just in a different form.
Packaging
Every piece of packaging, every bag, box and tube, is biodegradable or recyclable, sourced sustainably. No exceptions, no compromises.
The Collection
The fragrances we pour are chosen carefully, and each one is designed to do something specific to a room.
The Orangery is sharp and citrus-bright, exactly the right thing for a morning kitchen. Yorkshire Harvest is late-summer warmth in a jar. Heritage Rose is quiet and romantic. The Farmhouse smells exactly as the name suggests, a proper Yorkshire farmhouse kitchen, natural and grounding. The Patisserie goes somewhere warmer, a gourmand richness that fills a room without being sweet to the point of sickness. The Rio Glow is warm floral, something a little different.
In the wax melt range you will find all of these, plus fragrances you cannot get in candle form. Cotton Candy Bliss. Berry Crush. Crushed Raspberry and Rose. Popcorn. Brazilian Beach. Each one developed and tested here, in our Yorkshire workroom, until it was exactly right.
A Little Piece of Yorkshire, Wherever You Are
I started this because I wanted to bottle something real. The feeling of West Yorkshire, the specific quality of it, the landscape and the light and the cold air and the warmth you find inside when you come in from it.
Whether you are drawn to the sharp citrus brightness of The Orangery, the deep late-summer warmth of Yorkshire Harvest, the romantic softness of Heritage Rose, or any one of the fragrances we have poured our hearts into across the full collection, I hope what arrives on your doorstep brings a moment of quiet and a room that smells exactly like somewhere worth being.
